METALIC SIGN - WATCH AROUND WATER

Overview

An A frame sign made out of a black square metal with a white metallic sheet screwed onto either side of the frame. A black handle is attached to the top of the frame. A hinged bracket has been attached inside of the frame to hold it open when in use. The metallic sheet has a list of rules regarding safety in and around the pool.

The text below reads as: [CITY OF ARMADALE / For your safety please follow the rules / Follow Watch Around Water supervision policy / No bombies, flips or dangerous diving / No small, heavy balls in pool area / No running on concourse / Stay of lane ropes / No eating in pools / Swimming attire to be worn in pools / Children who ordinarily wear nappies must wear a tight fitting aqua-nappy / No offensive behavior or language / Smoke free centre / No alcohol on premises / Please follow Aquatic Centre staff instructions / Thank you and have a safe and enjoyable day / www.armadale.wa.gov.au].

After the text at the bottom of the sign is the Watch Around Water logo on the lower left side and Armadale Aquatic Centre on the lower right hand side. Text is repeated on the other side of the frame.

Historical information

This sign was acquired from the Armadale Aquatic Centre before renovations were started in 2017. The Centre was originally opened in December 1980. The Watch Around Water campaign started in 2004. By c2012 COA started to manage all site branding to a more consistent style. This is one of the multiple signs placed around the Armadale Aquatic Centre promoting safety messages around expected behaviour at the pool and outlining prohibited actions that were deemed to be dangerous.

MEDIUM
This collection of items was used at the Armadale Aquatic Centre. The Centre was opened in December 1980 and was closed in 2017 to make way for the new Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre which was opened in 2019. These items were collected as they represent the important role played in the social life of the local community and what was involved for a local government in running a public pool.
