Overview

A light grey metalic box containing a light, with a mains plug attached. There is a red push button switch on the front left hand side and a black, plastic, viewing device protruding out on the right, with four circular holes. When a disc is inserted the information is displayed through the viewing holes The back light highlights the information.

Brand mark on front, white text in black rectangle box. White text on the front black panel [Palintest / Comparator] and on the base: [WARNING / DISCONNECT FROM MAINS / BEFORE OPENING / Made by THE TINTOMETER LTD. / SALISBURY, ENGLAND / 250v, MAX. 50-60Hz / 1X60w]. The base also has a fold down stand. Sections of the bodywork have rust spots.

Historical information

The item was acquired from the Armadale Aquatic Centre before renovations were started in 2017. The Centre was originally opened in December 1980.
The equipment would have been used as early as 1980 and possibly as late as 2017 upon the Centre's closing for renovations. Most likely used in 1990s-early to c2005. It was used as part of the maintenance of the water quality of the pools at the Aquatic Centre. Maintaining a high standard of water quality at the Aquatic Centre was a priority to ensure patrons could swim in a safe environment.

Statement of significance

MEDIUM
This collection of items was used at the Armadale Aquatic Centre. The Centre was opened in December 1980 and was closed in 2017 to make way for the new Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre which was opened in 2019. These items were collected as they represent the important role played in the social life of the local community and what was involved for a local government in running a public pool.
