CONTAINER - PETER'S ICE CREAM BUCKET
c. 1937Round wax paper red cylinder that is wider at top than base. Open both ends. White ovals and rectangles on ice cream bucket with a mix of red and blue text. Text around base.
Text reads Oval [Peters / ICE CREAM] rectangle [PRICE / 3 / PENCE] base [MANUFACTURED BY PETERS ICE CREAM N.S.W.].
Peters Ice Cream was founded in New South Wales in 1907 by Frederick Peters. The first factory was in an old shed before factories in major cities in the eastern states were built over the coming decades.
The 1980s saw the buying out of Peter's by one company or another for the next three decades. Each time the company was merged into a larger holding company or being added into a growing food manufacturing company. Currently Peters belongs to R&R Ice Cream which together with PAI Partners and Nestle formed the venture Froneri. Froneri is one of the largest producers of icecream on the planet.
The school was scheduled to be demolished in 1987 to make way for the Armadale Shopping City expansion. The community rallied to save the building by transporting it down the road to its new location. The old Congregational Church was rebuilt just before the school was moved and sits adjacent to the school.
Collected from under the old location of Armadale Primary School before it was moved to its current location in Minnawarra historic Precinct.
