Historical information

This lace crocheted curtain was hand made by Mrs Anje Visser in her >>>> home in the mid 1950s. It was then hung across the top of one of the windows in the house. Dutch migrants to the City of Armdale would often decorate their home with these hand made crotched curtains as it was a tradition from the Netherlands. The purpose of the curtains was that it contributed to the atmosphere of 'gezelligheid' (cosy/friendly) in the family home which was important to the Dutch families. An easy way to pick a home of a Dutch family was to look for the short curtain across the top of the window.
