Overview

Rectangle cream card that is folded in half with light brown printed text and boxes. On the front is the ration card title [TWEEDE / DISTRIBUTIE / STAMKAART] card number to the right of this in black [043 No 050064]. Written on the front of the card is the name and address of the person who the ration card is issued to. [Huizenga / Henderikus / Lammert M / 25 Jul L/3 / hon xen / GRONINGEN / Havenstraat 3]. The word Groningen has been stamped in black ink. In the bottom left corner is a round black stamp. In bottom right corner is a rectangle purple paper stamp, glued in place. Text on black round stamp [GEMENTERESTUUR VAN GRONINGEN] On purple stamp [1043 / CONTROLE]
On the inside of the card is text across the top of both halves. Left side [UITGEREIKTE BONNEN E.A. BESCHEIDEN], RIGHT SIDE [UITGEREIKTE BONKAARTEN]. On both internal pages are columns on boxes. On the left page, left column is a list of words in Dutch. Second column has letters A-Z. Next five columns have [a-e] in the top and bottom cell of each column. text in pen written in random cells. On opposite page are 11 columns. First and seventh column has numbers printed in each cell. Column 2-6 has letters a-e in top and bottom cells. Repeated in the 8-11 cell. Crosses and letters written in pen in assorted empty cells. On back page has title across top [UITG AANTEEKENINGEN]. Back also as seven columns, text written in first column, letters in second column. Top and bottom cells of column 3-7 has letters a-e in them.

Historical information

Ration card issued to Henderikus Huizenga when has was a baby living in Groningen Holland. Henderikus was the son of Lambertus 'Bertus' and Lammechiena 'Lammie' Huizenga who lived in Groningen during World War II. In 1955. The family moved to Forrestdale in Western Australia. This document was deemed important enough to bring with them when they moved. The family would later settle at 24 Fourth Road in Armadale. Henderikus lived with his family until he was married.

Statement of significance

This collection of objects is associated with the experiences of families and individuals who migrated to Australia in the 1900s and settled in the City of Armadale. The collection represents the challenges they faced in starting a new home in the City, reasons why they chose to come to Australia and the successes they achieved. The collection also tells the story of the important impact migrant families and individuals have had on the cultural, economic and social history of the City of Armadale and how they and their descendants became an important part of the local community.
