BOTTLE: ONE PENNY INK WELL
Buff-coloured stoneware ink bottle with a squat, tubular body and straight sides. The shoulders are wide, approximately horizontal and are mottled russet brown from the firing process. Its small lip is rolled in the shape of a ring. Sticker on side says 'Id INK/ c1890/$2', which suggests it was bought by the donor at a shop before donating.
These ink bottles came in different sizes, this being the smallest. The name was coined in the trade and referred to its price, one penny.
