NEWGAIN FARM DOCUMENTS. MASSEY HARRIS CORN CRUSHER

1923
Subcollections
Overview

a) A letter from State Implement and Engineering Works relating to the return of a Corncrusher dated Feb 28 1923. The other documents listed here are all related to the the same item of equipment.
b) Credit note for the return of the Corncrusher dated Feb 14 1923.
c) A Promissory note which was due to be paid to the DEPARTMENT OF WORKS AND TRADING CONCERNS on 1.2.1923. This probably relates to the corncrusher when it was first obtained. The Note is shown on the back as being 'stopped' so presumably this was done as the machine was being returned.
d) Bank deposit slip for the credit shown in the letter at (a).

Historical information

Associated with Shire of Toodyay accession number 2023 -1 to 21, Newgain Farm Diaries dating from 1909 to 1932.

James Twine came to the colony as a labourer in 1833 and bought a farm in Guildford. He traded this farm with Dr Viveash's Toodyay holdings in 1852 in order to consolidate his land with his stepson's inherited lands. Further purchases during the 1860s lead to a 1400 acre property he called 'Newgain'. He and his sons also took large pastoral leases to the east and developed the neighbouring farm, 'Maisemore'. James Twine was an inaugural member of the Toodyay Road Board. He retired in 1874 and his sons took over management of the properties.
