On 23 May 1993, an early morning fire destroyed most of the buildings of the Toodyay District High School.

Details
The former Duke Street School and other halls in the town were then used for holding classes and for school administration until the school was rebuilt the following year.
Affected were 275 primary students, 100 high school students, and 27 full-time teaching staff.
