1986/87 America's Cup Festival of Sport badge/lapel pin
1986The America's Cup Festival of Sport badge/lapel pin is made of silver-plated metal. It is triangle-shaped and enamelled with a border of two yellow stripes either side of a green band. Embossed on the green band is the location and year of the festival. The centre is dark blue with a white silhouette of the 'Australia II' yacht, the Southern Cross stars, an outline of a person and the name of the sporting festival. The badge has a butterfly clip on the back.
Between September 1986 and March 1987 a Festival of Sport was held in Perth, Western Australia to complement the America'a Cup yachting series held in Fremantle during January and February of 1987. Thousands of competitors took part in the sporting festival, in a wide array of sports, including baseball, cricket, athletics, hockey, basketball, squash, golf, racing, trotting, cycling, football, lawn bowls, karate, kick-boxing and boxing competitions and a world sprint car championship.

This badge/lapel pin was donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by Paul Tye, Executive Officer of the Australian Baseball Team during the 1986-87 America's Cup Festival of Sport in Perth, Western Australia.
The badge has both historic and social significance as a memento of an international multidisciplinary sporting event, which included baseball, held in Perth, Western Australia.
