Overview

A colour photograph of the 1986 Australian Baseball Team and officials, displayed in its original silver-coloured metal frame. The team is wearing their playing uniform which consists of a dark-green, short-sleeved top with yellow bands around the edge of the sleeves, the neckline and the bottom hem. On the front of the top, in yellow, is the word 'Australia', with the player's number below it on the left-hand side. The top is worn over a yellow undershirt with white trousers. The baseball cap crown is mid-green synthetic fabric at the front, and green plastic mesh at the back. On front of the crown is an appliqued, stylised letter 'A' in gold-coloured thread. The visor is yellow synthetic fabric.

Historical information

Between September 1986 and March 1987 a Festival of Sport was held in Perth, Western Australia to complement the America'a Cup yachting series held in Fremantle during January and February of 1987. Thousands of competitors took part in the sporting festival, in a wide array of sports, including baseball, cricket, athletics, hockey, basketball, squash, golf, racing, trotting, cycling, football, lawn bowls, karate, kick-boxing and boxing competitions and a world sprint car championship.

The international round robin baseball tournament was held at Parry Field Baseball Park between the 8th and 15th of December 1986. Competing teams were Chinese Taipei, Japan, USA and Australia, with Japan winning the tournament.
