'St Cyres' 29 Davies Road, Claremont

Overview

Timber and iron house with bull-nosed verandah, partly enclosed with lattice. Room on the right has a bay window with large shade and shaped roof section above. The boards form an imitation brick pattern. On verandah a lady is sitting in a cane chair. There is a hanging basket on either side of the doorway. A path leads to the steps with lawn on either side, a large shrub on the left hides part of the verandah and a flower bed extends along to the steps.

Historical information

Home of Abraham family 1918-85. Named 'St Cyres' after family home in UK. Bought in 1918 by Abraham family from Mrs Mary Gallagher who lived next door at 31 Davies Road (2 years later sold her home to T. Flintoff). When Mrs Violet Abraham died in a car accident in 1955, the house was left to all her children. However all the brothers agreed that Olive Abraham should have the house and contents.
