Lucknow Hospital
1982Lucknow Hospital, Stirling Highway, Claremont. Public auction sign out the front with sold sticker.
Nurse EM Smith (Proprietor of the original Lucknow Hopsital in Queenslea Drive) submitted a plan to Claremont Council in 1934 to build a hospital on Stirling Highway. She transferred the name Lucknow to the new site and sold the original hospital, which continured to use the name until 1944. Until its closure in 1980 the Stirling Highway Lucknow changed hands three times. Matron Nance Harris leased it from Matron Smith (now Mrs A Gordon-Scott) from July 1944 until she retired in 1949. Three sisters, Sheila, Eileen and Rita McMullan leased the hospital from the proprietor Mrs Scott in 1949. Mrs Scott sold it in 1954 to the government. The three sisters ran the hospital intil they retired in 1980. The hospital, which was next to the town hall was then sold by the government and the building was demolished and the site redeveloped.
