Overview

Rectangle white linen tea towel. The towel has four maroon illustrations, one in each quarter of the towel. In the middle is the logo for the City of Armadale Centenary. The features a rectangle horizontal scroll. At the left end of the scroll is a circular image of a leather belt forming the boarder. Inside is an illustration of a arched bridge in the foreground and two brick buildings in the background. Rest of scroll has text [CENTENARY / 1984-1994 / SPANNING A CENTURY / LEADING THE WAY] Top left illustration is of a single storey brick building with a slanted roof, front veranda and a single brick chimney. A tree is located out the front. Text under the illustration [STATION MASTERS HOUSE]. Top right illustration is of a white single storey building with a pitched roof. Three steps lead up to the arched entrance at the front of the building. On left side there are five windows. Two palm trees are in front of the building. Text under illustration [ROADS BOARD BUILDING]. Bottom left building is of a long T shaped single storey building with a pitched corrugated iron roof. The entrance of the building juts out and about a quarter of the length of the rest of the building. Out the front is a tractor with a smoke stack and a single figure driving it. Bottom right image is of the curved end of a pool of water with a boarded walkway along its edge and pergola made up of brick/stone pillars and wood roof beams. In the background is a bridge. Historical information

This tea towle was part of a suit of items produced by the City of Armadale to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the gazetting of the Kelmscott Road Board in 1894 that is today the City of Armadale. The tea towle featured illustrations of the Kelmscott Station Masters The 100th Anniversary included a variety of events from dinners to concerts held throughout the year. This tea towle was purchased as a momentous of the event by Alf and Dorothy Cassely who were local residents.

Statement of significance

Part of a collection of items produced to celebrate 100 years since the establishment of the Kelmscott Road Board in 1894 than has since grown with the local community and is today the City of Armadale. This collection is part of a larger collection of items that focuses on the history and impact of local government on the community. Local Government plays an important role in providing services to the local community and provides a snap shot into what issues are important to the local community.
