The woman is dressed in a dark long sleeved blouse which has a broach at chest level and a long dark skirt. There is a long chain around the woman's neck which tucks into the woman's skirt. The woman is holding a book in her lap. Her hair is tied up in a bun.
Jane Garrity was the daughter of Thomas and Alice Haddleton.

On the bottom right hand side of the cream cardboard is written in brown ink is "F. Martyn, Katanning W.A."
On the back of the photograph is hand written in blue ink "Jane Garrity nee Haddleton 1917".
