c. 1965Circular jarrah stand on raised conical base, with recessed top to accept glass ashtray insert. Ashtray has indents to hold four cigarettes.
The ashtray was used at a wine saloon located on Third Road in Armadale. It was owned by Wally Mitchell. The ashtray was given to Pam Herbert as a souvenir by her friend Kath Mitchell, who was related to Wally Mitchell. In 2013, a car park was located where the store used to be. The ashtray represents a time when it was socially acceptable to smoke in public indoor venues, a practice that is no longer socially acceptable or legal.

This collection of objects represents the way people, who call the City of Armadale their home, live their daily lives has changed over time. This includes habits and pastimes that were once popular but today are either frowned upon or have simply gone out of fashion. It includes fashions that were once worn and decorative items that once were common in peoples homes. The collection represents how each generation changes has different tastes and but can also take past trends and reinvent them for their own times.
