The Armadale District Bowling Club was founded in February 1949 and was originally located at Memorial Park on Jull Street on the site of the former croquet club. In 1954 the club updated its bylaws and allowed women to join and compete at the club. In 1956 the club moved to its new premises at Gwyne Park on Forrest Road in Armadale where they still compete today.
This object is part of a collection that tells the story of the many different community sporting organisations that have and continue to exist in the City of Armadale. Sport has played an important role in bringing communities together and building identities. With the influx of new residents to the region in the late 1800s local sporting clubs began to form as people came together looking to form a community through shared sporting interests. Sporting clubs can also show how established communities begin to grow and diversify with clubs being formed by new emerging communities.
