Fundraising Badge - "Tin Hat Appeal"
1922Green metal badge with a domed centre - shaped as a tin helmet. Black text. On the back, it has a tab on the upper centre edge - this would have enabled it to be pinned through a buttonhole or similar.
RSL Australia, also known as the Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL), was founded in 1916 to address the welfare needs of returning servicemen from World War I and has since evolved to support all veterans and their families.
Note: The organisation began as the Returned Sailors and Soldiers Imperial League of Australia (RSSILA) in 1916, later becoming the Returned Sailors', Soldiers' and Airmen's Imperial League of Australia (RSSAILA) in 1940, the Returned Services League of Australia in 1965, and finally RSL Australia in 1990 to reflect its support for both current and former service members.
