The 150th anniversary (sesquicentennial) of Western Australia was celebrated in 1979 under the official title WAY '79 (Western Australia 150th Year). This celebration marked 150 years since the establishment of the Swan River Colony in 1829, which was the first permanent European settlement in Western Australia.
