Overview

Cream coloured stiff card, folded width ways in the middle. It has an orange stripe near the right edge, and a stripe of regimental colours of gold and blue with a picture of Middle East architecture near the bottom edge. The top right has the Rising Sun Emblem of the AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH MILITARY FORCE with text [Christmas / Greetings / from / 2/11 Battalion / A.I.F].
Inside is the handwriten correspondence to Merle Marshfrom Albert Wattlingdated 30/10/40.

Historical information

A series of letters sent by Private Albert Wattling to Merle Marsh during World War II. Albert lived in Prospect Road in Armadale before he left to fight with the AIF overseas. Merle, also from Armadale, was at that time going to school in Northam.
Some of the letters are sent from Stalag 13C, a prisoner of war camp in Germany, where Albert spent part of the war.

HIGH
Historic: Letters written by Pt Albert Wattling, who was serving with AIF forces oversears during WWII, to Merle Marsh, who was in school at Northam at the time. Albert's family lived in Prospect Road Armadale.
Social: The thoughts and words of a local man who went and served overseas during WWII. Note that the letters would have been censored by the military. Also how writing letters was a way to keep in touch with home and helped moraly support the Australian troops.
