Bronze plaque depicting WWI battle scene with a tank
c. 1919Circular bronze plaque etched or engraved with images of WWI German planes bombing an allied tank.
The tank is at the centre of the plaque, with a squadron of German planes heading towards it from a distance.
One of the German planes has already dropped a bomb which is seen to have exploded next to the tank.
The background is very detailed and shimmers in the light as the piece is moved.
The plaque is attached to a wooden backing which has a metal loop on the reverse for hanging.
It is one of a pair by the same artist, with the other showing an aerial dogfight between the Royal Flying Corps and the German Air Force in WWI.
The artwork depicts a ground versus air battle between a squadron of German planes and an allied tank. It is very dynamic, as the guns of the tank are seen to be firing and the bombs already dropped by the German planes are exploding around the tank.
