Lacquered, brown rubber sailor doll
c. 1920Moulded brown rubber figurine of a sailor wearing a cap, cropped jacket and bell bottomed trousers. He is saluting with one arm while the other rests at his side. He has a round face and plump cheeks.
The figure has a laquered surface which has worn away in places to reveal a lighter colour underneath.
There are no maker's marks present.
Although there are no maker's marks present, there were two companies producing rubber toy soldiers and sailors in the United States around the time of World War One - Auburn Rubber Co. in Auburn, Indiana, and Faultless Rubber Co.in Ashland, Ohio.
