Historical information

In February 1918, Bunbury District High School (BDHS) opened on the corner of Stirling Street and Arthur Street Bunbury, on a site previously used for the Bunbury Central School.

It was one of three or four country district high Schools opened at about the same time — the first Government schools apart from Modern School in Perth to take students through five years of high schooling that prepared them for Leaving Certificate examinations.

Before this time Bunbury Central School had only provided students with three years of high schooling that prepared them for Junior Certificate examinations.

The BDHS buildings and site were considered by many to be unsuitable for a high school.

In 1923, the school moved into the new purpose built Bunbury High School (BHS), atop Boulters Heights, that was capable of meeting the needs of a regional high school.
