Mr Mackintosh is wearing a shirt, tie, waistcoat and trousers and is smiling broadly. His mother is also smiling and is wearing a striped frock, a cardigan, a knotted string of pearls around her neck and a Scottish thistle shaped brooch at the join of the collar her dress.
She is holding a very large book (probably a Bible) which is open and resting on her lap.
A wide band ring is seen on the middle finger of her left hand.
Both are wearing glasses.
Behind them both is an ornate china light on the wall and lower to the left part of an oval mirror.
Mary Ann (born 1885) was the wife of Robert Ewen Mackintosh (1868-1945).
