METAL THREAD,GOLDWORK,PICTURES

Overview

.
Two picture panels, heavily embroidered in a range of gold and silver metal threads, possibly Indian, depict an exotic flavour of the ‘east’, rich and majestic. Background fabric is black velvet, backed with buckram.
Each panel depicts a majestic peacock perched on a tree branch with a gardenia-like flower and variety of leaves on either side. The peacock’s royal blue body and background tail feathers of green and tan are stitched with long and short stitch in silk floss. Wings, flowers and branch stitched in various metal threads – purl, pearl pearl creating a very textured picture. In the centre of each flower is a glass bead, (a) green and (b) orange. The royal blue body and flower petals are heavily padded.
(a) Peacock’s tail, is down, embroidered in green and tan silk floss with gold metal threads on top.
(b) Peacock’s tail is up, embroidered in green and tan silk floss with gold metal threads on top,
Would appear that each of these panels were once in a frame.
