Overview

B & W Photo of a group of 46 school children, boys and girls, standing outside Toodyay School.
All seem to be dressed in period costume.
The front row pupils are sitting. To the right corner of photo is a large drum behind which a boy is holding a drum stick.
A brick wall of the school building plus 2 windows is behind the group.
Four blackboards standing on easels are situated behind the group and against the wall, each blackboard contains what appears to be a chalk drawing in floral pattern.

Historical information

The old Newcastle School, located on Duke Street, was the first purpose built school in the new town site of Toodyay (then known as Newcastle). It operated as a school from 1887 to 1954.
