John Hutton ran a coach service for travellers in the 1880s and also managed a farm just north of Coolingnup (Capel) townsite. In 1885 John with wife Ann purchased the Capel Inn at auction. In 1888 his younger brother Tom, with his wife Eliza and young baby joined them, performing work as a fencer and hauler. Eventually Tom and Eliza established their own farm at Location 2432.
