GRATER, NUTMEG
Small metal oblong grater used for grating nutmeg which was added to baked custards or soups and sometimes a pinch was added to vegetable dishes. The bottom section is flat with a curved section at top end with a hole so it could be hung up in a cupboard or on the wall. The top section is curved, like a cylinder with tiny holes across it. The whole nutmeg was rubbed vigorously over the holes and the tiny bits would fall onto flat underneath part. This was then shaken over the food where needed.
