c. 1963Washing Machine with Wringer – Electrically powered
White enamel finished top tub fixed to a white painted bottom skirt mounted on four castor wheels. A grey rubber bump ring is fitted around the join between the top and bottom segments. A white enamel pressed metal lid is fitted with a chrome lifting handle and a rubber sealing ring. The washing agitator is four bladed and is made of cream plastic. The machine is powered by a 240v electric motor. It has a black power cord and rubber waste water hose.
A control panel is located on the bottom skirt of the machine. Button and lever settings are printed in black on a grey adhesive label adhered to the machine. A control lever is used to start or stop the wash, a twisting knob with three settings for turning off, pump out and pump in, and a small red re-set button.
The wringer is driven by a vertical shaft, mounted externally on the side of the tub. The top wringer assembly can be rotated out of the way to gain free access to the tub.
