Historical information

Three siblings from the Lowe family, of High St Busselton, enlisted in the Royal Australian Airforce during WW2 between 1942-1945.

Enid Lowe, born 12th March 1923, enlisted with Women’s Royal Australian Air Force (WRAAF) on 8th March 1942 as she wanted to see the world and fight the enemy who had reached Singapore. Enid became a Clerk and made the rank of Captain in the Maintenance Section which was responsible for keeping the Anson aircraft flying for trainees.

Doris Lowe, born 6th May 1921, enlisted with the WRAAF in 1942 as it was considered the thing to do and she felt she could contribute. Doris did her “rookie” training at 4RD Busselton, after which she was stationed in Perth and attained the rank of Sergeant working as a Cypher Assistant, coding and decoding messages.

Flight Sergeant Lawton Lowe had weekend training at 4RD Busselton whilst a member of the local Air Training Cadets, after which he became an Air Gunner with the RAAF.

Doris Lowe was a long-term member of the Busselton Historical Society and an ardent supporter of this museum. Doris turned 100 in 2021 and received a message from the Queen for reaching this milestone.
