Historical information

Avon sold beauty and personal care products :
In 1886, David H. McConnell from New York starts the California Perfume Company. The Avon name and logo are first used on a cosmetics line in 1939, and in 1946 The California Perfume Company is renamed 'Avon'.

It all started with a travelling book salesman named David H. McConnell, who noticed that his customers were more drawn to the free perfume samples he offered than the books he sold. That spark of insight led him to create the California Perfume Company, which eventually became AVON.

In 1971, jewellery is introduced into the Avon range of products.

The classic phrase "Ding dong, Avon calling!", a signature jingle from the company's golden era.
