TOY: WOODEN RIFLE GUN

Overview

A handmade rifle gun made for child's play. The gun stock is constructed of one solid piece of wood. A wooden dowel piece painted black is secured on top of the wooden stock by a wide piece of blue tape, to resemble the barrel of a rifle. Cream/ brown tape is also wrapped wide around the rifle at the beginning of the barrel.

A metal nail protrudes from the barrel where the trigger guard may have been attached to resemble the trigger mechanism. A small thin nail has been hammered in further along which has split the wood into a narrow crack on either side of the nail head.

Text has been written on the right side of the rifle under the barrel which reads 'The Lone Ranger'. The top half of a face with a mask and hair has been hand drawn underneath. There is another indistinguishable drawing further right. On the right side of the rifle's handle is a scribbled pattern in what appears to be lead pencil and on the left side of the rifle's handle two indistinguishable words have been written with one closely resembling the word 'Graham.'

Pauline Diggins noted that the wooden guns were made by Subiaco architect Colin Moore. The toy guns were used to play 'war games' by Moore's daughter's Rebecca and Gina and for the Diggins' children Sarah and Justin during the 1970s.
