NAIL CUTTER, LIPFERT
The nail-cutting set came from the Lipfert home, 270 York St, Subiaco, where the family lived from 1910-89. It is made of silver metal and the file part is ornately embellished. The cutter consists of 3 pieces of metal. The 2 lower pieces are joined at a hinge at one end, and at the other end the metal is concave in shape and sharpened to cut nails when the 2 pieces of metal are forced together. This happens when the 3rd, and upper piece of metal is pushed down and acts as a lever to depress the lower 2 pieces together. This upper piece is pointed at its free end to act as a nail cleaner, and its lower surface is corrugated to form a file. The pointed end can be slipped under a metal loop when cutter is not in use.
