BUTTERFLY HAIR CLIP: LIPFERT FAMILY

Overview

These hair clips come from the Lipfert home, 270 York Street, Subiaco, where the family lived from 1910. Such clips were used to fix waves in ladies' hair. Clip is silver in colour. Near the top of the clips is a spring. When the 2 metal parts above the spring are pressed together, the 2 lower sections of the clip open out revealing 'teeth' which interlock when the clip is closed. These lower sections are slightly curved to follow the shape of the head. The clips were used by hairdressers, and women at home, to create a wavy effect in hair.
Printed 'Perfect Wave Setter' and 'British Pat. Pending'.
