Central card mat containing portrait of Trooper Bailey holding his rifle.His bayonet is attached to his belt. He is wearing a leather bandolier, leather leggings with metal buckles, a sidecap, jacket and trousers.

Historical information

John Arthur Alexander Bailey was born in Longford, Tasmania.
He served in the Cadet Corps, Compulsory Military Training scheme prior to enlisting, aged 21, with C Squadron, 3rd Light Horse Regiment, on 19 August 1914.
His service number was 375.
He embarked from Hobart, Tasmania, on board Transport A2 Geelong on 20 October 1914.
He proceeded to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 9 May 1915.
He was killed in action 28 May 1915 at Monash Valley, Gallipoli, Turkey.
He was buried at Shrapnel Valley Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
