Historical information

Electric Tramway service was inaugurated in 1899 as a private company. In 1912, it was purchased by the WA Government. The first tram operated in Claremont on 19th May 1924. Service operated from the railway station to Westana Road (now Waratah Avenue),Claremont, with a turn around near Bishop's Place. Mr Gale and Mr Mutton were tram drivers for many years there. Trams ceased when trolley buses arrived in 1938.
