In the background is the "FEDERAL HOTEL". The road appears to be dirt, however there is a pavement, and there is a horse and cart and a horse and buggy to the left of the bank building.

On the front of the postcard in dark lettering at the top left is "Clive St., looking West, Katanning"
On the back of the postcard handwritten in dark ink which has faded is "To Mother from Bill 6-8-16".
On the back of the postcard is printed in brown lettering is 'POST CARD' , and below this the card has two columns and in the top right hand corner is a square to affix a stamp.
On the back of the postcard along the left hand vertical side of the postcard is “Printed in Germany”.
