Historical information

Rupert Langtry Ashe (1921-), son of Eric Rupert Ashe (1890-1970) and Blanche Bessant Wiltshire (1874-) was born in Katanning on 20 March 1921.

Moved to Perth in 1928.

Enlisted in the Australian Military Forces on 26 February 1941 at Quairading, Western Australia and was discharged on 6 May 1943.

He later lived at Alfred Carson Nursing Home in Bay Road Claremont and, although confined to a wheel chair suffering from 'spastic paralysis', he was seen in Bay View Terrace, Claremont every Friday for some 25 years, collecting for charity.

He was voted Claremont Citizen of the Year in 1980.
