TOOL: SHAVE, SPOKE - FLAT FRONTED WOODEN BODY, BRASS SOLE PLATE
Spoke Shave. Straight stock, ends shaped and cut away underneath giving oval handles an up-turned appearance. The middle section has a triangular notch cut out at the back to the half-width of the sole of the stock to take the iron (blade), a wedge-shaped steel cutter is mounted horizontally with 2 square tapered tangs at the ends turned up at right angles driven in to corresponding holes in stock. The sole in front of the cutting edge is square and plated with a rectangular shaped piece of brass to prevent wear. Used for various wood-working jobs that required the cleaning-up of circular work. e.g. spoke making etc.
