Historical information

The National War Savings Committee was established during the Great War. It covered England and Wales, with separate organisations set up for Scotland and Ireland. It encouraged organisation of local voluntary savings associations, and introduced war savings deposits, later known as war savings certificates, which were sold through the Post Office and Trustee Savings Banks.
While various schemes were set up to be responsible for funding the production of ships (Warship Week), weapons (Salute the Soldier Week) and aircraft (Wings for victory Week), it also played a critical role in inspiring patriotism and boosting the morale of the British public during a time of crisis.

"WAR SAVINGS CAMPAIGN"

"Get your own back"

"Policeman: If I'd been through what he has, I'd
be itching to get my own back.

A.F.S. Man: But how do you know he isn't?

Policeman: He's still spending money as fast
as he makes it - that proves he isn't!

A.F.S. Man: But surely he deserves a bit of fun
to make up for his hard luck!

Policeman: Not if it means helping Hitler,
and that's what he's doing. People
have got to make things he buys
when they ought to be free to make
planes and bombs."

"Make your money fight! Get your own back

Stockbroker and put your money into 3% Savings Bonds
1955-1965, 2 1/2% National War Bonds 1946-1948, or
3% Defence Bonds; or buy Savings Certificates; or
