KOJONUP SPRING AGREEMENT - COPY
1999A photocopy of the Kojonup Spring agreement. The Original document was established and signed on 18th September 1999 after long discussions between the Kojonup Aboriginal Corporation and the Shire of the day - Mr Robert Sexton - President. It stipulates that the area referred to as the 'Spring' is of special spiritual and cultural significance to both Aboriginal and Non Aboriginal people and that it is the wish of the Aboriginal people that the area be continued to be shared. A Spring Management Committee was formed that included the Kojonup Aboriginal Corporation, the Kojonup Historical Society, Shire representatives and a member of the Rotary club. No constructions, changes etc were to be implimented without the express view of this Committee. While not a legally binding document, the people of Kojonup hold this agreement in trust and intend to keep it as an agreement of significance and good faith. This agreement holds a special place in the formation of The Kodja Place as it is believed that the negotiations in this area led to further cooperation and trust between the Noongar and Wadjela peoples. Framed copies can be found at the Shire and in The Kodja Place, and the Historical Society.
