Osborne Hotel
c. 1895Image of the Osborne Hotel in a decorative surround. View is from the drive leading from Perth-Fremantle Road to the main entrance with a rotunda on the left. Women in long frocks, some men in top hats and frock coats and others wearing less formal attire and boaters, are gathered in front of the building. Two men are on the first balcony and three people on top of the tower. In the decorative surround is [OSBORNE HOTEL. CLAREMONT.] in the bottom right corner [F.W.Niven &Co., Ball't.] and handwritten across the top [OSBORNE HOTEL FROM DRIVEWAY OFF STIRLING HIHWAY. c. 1895].
In 1894 James Grave began building Perth's finest resort hotel. Extensive hotel was surmounted by a tower with a 70 ft turret and surrounded by landscaped gardens with fountains flowers, retreats, shades and summer houses. There was also a tennis court, bowling green, boatshed, swmming baths, with a flight of steps to the water's edge to cater for those arriving by boat. Purchased by Loreto Sisters for Loreto Convent School 1901. Demolished 1962.
