The Waldecks were a prominent family at Greenough, Joshua Waldeck having married Catherine Pearson and despite coming from a strong Temperance background, was landlord of the Hampton Hotel from 1886-89. The couple were to raise 12 children. Joshua was also a member of the Greenough Road Board and served as chairman for nine months in 1905.
Lilian (b.1885) was their 8th child.
Eliza McDermott was the youngest daughter of John & Jane (nee Connolly), and grew up at Greenough.

In the first half of the 20th century St Catherine's Hall at Central Greenough was a popular venue for social events. This is a rare reminder of an important family event held there in the early 1900s.
