Delivery Note no.244 - timber for J.S. Maley

William A. Garrard (1856-76) was the son of William Garrard, a shipbuilder at Geraldton. He would have only been 13 at the time this note was written. His father drowned in July 1868.
John S. Maley (1839-1910) was rather an entrepreneur being a flour mill proprietor; and a shop, hotel and brewery owner at Greenough, Dongara and Geraldton.

This is one of only 3 notes written by William Garrard in the Maley Mill & Store Archives and provides evidence of the necessity of children being sent to work at an early age following the death of a parent.
The note also provides evidence that Maley was undertaking some building construction at Greenough.
