Lead button from clothing worn by munitions worker

Overview

Circular lead button with a raised edge and flat upper surface which has horizontal lines etched into it. There may be letters within the lines, but it is not possible to identify them. The colour varies from light to dark grey and is matte.
It has two central holes which are broader at the top than underneath. The under surface is curved and also has inscribed markings which are mostly horizontal and vertical lines. It is mostly dark grey and has a sheen to it.
Due to the softness of the metal, there are a few dents and dings on the edge and surface of the button.

Historical information

This lead button is believed to have come from the clothing of a munitions worker - either a dustcoat or work tunic.
Lead is a non-sparking metal due to its thermal conductivity, shedding energy inputs quickly and keeping it below the threshold for combustion. This is obviously important in a munitions environment.
An example of a woollen shirt with cloth ties instead of buttons is also held in the collection.
