A young girl sits on a goat cart, holding the reigns. An holder girl holds the goat's harness and a man stands behind them, leaning on the doorway of a wooden building.
Goats (and rabbits) arrived in Australia with the First Fleet in 1788 and spread with settlers throughout the country. The original goats were a varied and hardy herd capable of utilising harsh Australian pastures to produce milk and meat, and as in this image, to be childhood companions.
