Overview

A small black and white photograph showing a landscape that includes a foreground of rocks and sand in front of a large building. There are also 2 smaller building at the right of the image and a line of trees. Several people can be seen standing or walking in front of the large building. The image is blurred at the lefthand side and there is a circular blemish on the righthand side. There is a white border surrounding the image. The reverse of the image has the proforma printing of part of a postcard and an inscription.

Historical information

Mena House Hotel at Mena, ten miles from Cairo, was taken over for use as No. 2 Australian General Hospital (2 AGH) early in 1915. Offices adjoining the back of the hotel were used by the 1st Divisional Headquarters from late 1914 to 1915. In June 1915 the hospital staff were transferred to Gezira in Cairo; Mena House continued as an auxiliary hospital.
