Overview

The book covers were once blue, now faded to a creamy colour. At the front there is a black yellow and red edging around a grey background. Stamp of Belgium is inside the edging, 2 circles with a star on the inside. Around the stamp is LABELGIQUE HISTORIQUE-MARQUE DEPOSEE. YPRES. This is coloured and underlined in browny colour. Picture of Les Halles de'Ypres at bottom left hand side. Bottom right hand side is written Avant et apres la Guerre./Before and after the War. Underlined. Inside are several pages describing Ypres and photographic scenes. The back cover has Phototype.E.DESAIX, 10 rue Moorslede, Bruxelles./Teleph.B 112.45-Compte Cheques-Postaux : Br. 189.39

Historical information

Postcards depicting the recovery of Ypres in Belgium from the destruction caused during WWI.
Lucy Knox was born in 1927 to Leonard and Berthe (nee Brel, Berthe was born in France) and grew up in the Belgium city of Ypres where her parents ran a hotel and conducted tours of Word War One battle sites and cemeteries, mainly for British tourists. The family moved to England sometime in the mid to late 1940s. In the late 1950s Lucy went on a world trip stopping in Kenya and Perth where where she me Englishman Peter James Denholm, who she married in 1960. The pair settled in Western Australia and started a family. In the 1960s the family spent time farming in the Busselton, Greenhills and Dandaragin areas before settling in the Byford area.
