MGGC VISIT BY JAPANESE TRAVEL GROUP 1988
1988A personal communication provided by Kevin Blacker described a travel group of Japanese golfers who conducted a five-day golf trip to WA in 1988, playing golf and having lunch at MGGC.
Kevin remarked that:
'Some of the visitors couldn’t afford to play in Japan and on arrival bought complete sets of the best clubs, just for the visit and left them much to the good fortune of some (local Golf) Pro shops.
(Kevin’s wife) Cynthia played a round with the Manager of the Japanese Food Marketing Board … (whose) golf day was once a month, after a four-hour train trip to his club somewhere outside Tokyo.
The trophy for the … (five days) … best scores; a $3000 necklace, presented at a dinner at the Orchid (Orchard?) hotel in Perth.'
