Overview

Child's toy sewing machine (a) with reel of thread attached at top. Operated by circular wheel with handle on right side. Machine to be clamped to a firm table with clamp.

(b) Cardboard box for storage.

(c) Black metal frame has painted decoration of flowers, foliage, birds in swirled design. Nickel sewing plate (serial no. 324714) for passing fabric over. Reel of cream thread fitted on spindle at top. Machine stamped "Made in Germany". Directions for use "Printed in Germany".

(d) has image of a mother using a sewing machine watched by a girl, box stamped no.4 on base. Lid of box damaged.

Historical information

Owned by Matthew Lawrence Clarke of 'Mumberkine', Jennacubbine, via Goomalling. There were 4 generations living in the house when M.L. Clarke was a child - born 1910. These toys were in the household. Brought to Subiaco by donor, daughter of M.L. Clarke.
