MATCHBOOK - PROMOTIONAL YE OLDE NARROGIN INNE TAVERN

Overview

Rectangle cream cardboard matchbook. has two fold creases half wya along the matchbook allowing the cover to fold over the matches. Bottom of the matchbook folded up to cover where matches are attached. Along the top of the bottom short folded cover is a grey stricking strip. Under this is text outlining the manufacturers information.

On the front of the matchbook is an illustration of a coach being pulled by two horses in a singl line, being driven along a dirt road. Text under this in old english style font [Ye Olde / Narrogin Inne Tavern] Next two lines of text in a normal font [2 SOUTH WEST HWY., ARMADALE / TELEPHONE 399 2109].

On the back of the match book is an illustration of the Narrogin Inne, a two story building with a balcony in a tudor style. text under illustration in old english font [Ye Olde / Narrogin Inne Tavern].

Inside the matchbook are ten black matches with white matchheads. Stubs of where two matches have been torn out are vissible.

Historical information

Promotional match book collected by Patricia Walker some time between the mid 1970s and the 1990s. Patricia lived in Kelmscott and worked at the City of Armadale during a large part of this time period and would visit the Ye Old Narrogin Inne for meals.

The matchbook was produced in Richmond Victoria by the Hanna Match Group, a company formed in 1957 and who moved to Richmond in 1967. The company made printed advertising materials.
